Dr. Jill M. Bert, Optometrist
Dr. Bert started Lakefront Eye Care in 2015 and has loved growing it into the thriving practice it is today. Private practice optometry is Dr. Bert’s passion and she takes pride in providing exceptional care to every patient she sees. She is a contact lens specialist and takes a holistic approach to eye and health care. She not only provides a thorough eye examination but spends time with each patient to ensure they are achieving the best and most functionally efficient vision possible. She enjoys explaining her assessment of the health of the eyes and how it is connected and related to each patient’s overall health. Dr. Bert loves to see kids and participates in the Infant See program providing eye exams at no cost to infants under one year of age. Her other specialties include ocular disease including diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, and macular degeneration, and corneal disease including the fitting of specialty contact lenses. She also provides myopia control care where the progression of nearsightedness can be significantly slowed in children.
Dr. Bert grew up in the Chicago area and received her Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Purdue University. She also spent time abroad working on her pre-doctoral studies at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Bert completed her Optometry Doctorate with clinical honors from the Illinois College of Optometry. She has had extensive experience with surgical co-management and directed the specialty contact lens section at Lakeshore Eye Physicians surgical center in Chicago. She also spent time at the William Chappell Jr. Veterans Outpatient Clinic in Daytona Beach, Florida where she focused on treatment and management of ocular disease.
Dr. Bert loves the outdoor activities of Colorado and spends her free time kite surfing, mountain biking, and skiing with her husband, Sam. They have a boy and twin girls.
Dr. Elizabeth Thomas
Elizabeth Thomas grew up in Houston, Texas, and received her undergraduate B.S. degree in Human Nutrition and Foods from the University of Houston. After graduation, she was chosen by the United States Army to complete a dietetic internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as an officer. Her first duty assignment was at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center (FAMC) as the Chief of Clinical Dietetics. It was there at FAMC where she became fascinated with the effects of nutrition on the eyes. Soon after she began to volunteer after hours in the FAMC Optometry Clinic, she was accepted to Pacific University College of Optometry where she graduated with distinction and was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa – International Optometric Honor Society.
She completed her training at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, a laser vision correction facility in Denver, and a vision therapy practice in Wheatridge, Colorado. She is certified by the National Board of Optometric Examiners of Optometry and has been practicing the full scope of optometry for patients of all ages. She is trained in the treatment and management of ocular diseases, pre and post-operative care of patients undergoing LASIK or cataract surgery, and holds a strong interest in contact lens fittings. For 14 years, she has worked in primary care clinics for underserved children and adults all around the Denver area and also worked in a LASIK surgery center. She is a member of the Colorado Optometric Association and American Optometric Association.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her three teenage children, and husband, and loves to dance tap, jazz, and modern/contemporary styles of dance. She also enjoys skiing and snowboarding.
Megan joined Lakefront Eye Care in 2020 when she moved to sunny Colorado from Michigan. She began wearing glasses at age five and has always been fascinated with how our eyes and vision correction works. She first got into the optical field in 2015 when she worked at a private optometry practice as an optician and contact lens specialist. She loves helping people with their vision and ensuring each patient receives the best care that they deserve and the best lenses based on their lifestyle. She really enjoys helping patients pick out practical frames that look nice and stylish. She is currently engaged and has a little boy and baby girl.
